Golf can be a great team activity, with one condition: everyone has to be able to play. A traditional round takes hours and rewards years of practice. That leaves most of your team watching from the sidelines.

Golf games for companies work differently. They are short, simple and built so a first-timer can win. Here are contests that get everyone involved, plus tips for running them at your next company event.

What makes a good company golf game

The best contests for a workplace share a few traits:

• They take one or two swings. Short turns keep the line moving and the energy up.

• Anyone can win. Focus and a little luck matter as much as skill.

• They are fun to watch. A clear result on screen gets the crowd involved.

• They are easy to explain. If the rules take more than a sentence, simplify.

1. Closest to the Pin

This is the classic for mixed groups. Each guest takes a swing at a single target, and the ball that lands closest to the pin wins. It takes seconds to explain, and one good swing from a first-timer can beat the office's best golfer. That surprise is half the fun.

Tip: Give everyone a practice swing first, then count the next one. It keeps things fair and calms nerves.

2. Long Drive

Long Drive is simple: swing for distance. On the Golf Truck, TrackMan measures each shot, so there is no arguing over the result. It draws a crowd fast, because everyone wants to see the next big hit.

Tip: Consider separate leaderboards for experienced golfers and first-timers, so newer players have a fair shot at a prize.

3. Department vs. department team challenge

Group people by department, project team or office, and keep a running team score. Each person contributes a shot, and the team total decides the winner. Individual swings become a shared goal, and coworkers end up cheering for each other.

Tip: Mix experience levels on each team. Experienced players become coaches, and first-timers become the heroes when they land a good one.

4. Virtual course play

For smaller groups or longer events, guests can play holes on a virtual course in 4K. It feels like a round, without the hours or the walking. It works well for client events, where conversation matters as much as the score.

5. A season-long leaderboard

One great event can turn into a tradition. Companies that schedule monthly, quarterly or seasonal Golf Truck visits can keep a running leaderboard from one visit to the next. Rotating challenges keep it fresh, and the friendly rivalry gives people something to look forward to.

How to run golf games at a company event

A little planning keeps contests smooth:

• Post the rules where people can see them. Keep them short.

• Set a time for final results. Announce winners at a natural break, such as before food or awards.

• Choose prizes that fit your culture. A trophy, a prime parking spot or simple bragging rights all work.

• Keep it optional. Some guests play every game. Others prefer to cheer from the lounge.

• Rotate games during longer events. Start with Closest to the Pin, move to Long Drive, then finish with a team challenge.

On the Golf Truck, our on-site staff runs the games for you. They help each guest choose a club (right- and left-handed clubs are included), explain the format and keep the leaderboard moving, so you can enjoy the event too. How it works shows what arrives with the truck.

Making first-timers feel welcome

The biggest barrier to company golf games is not skill. It is the fear of looking silly in front of coworkers. A few small choices help:

• Start with the easiest game.

• Let first-timers go after a few others, so they can see how it works.

• Celebrate effort, not just results.

• Keep the mood light with music and a little friendly trash talk.

No golf experience is needed on the Golf Truck. Our crew walks every guest through the basics.
